Twitch introduces a new policy of misconduct outside the app

Twitch updated his hateful behavior and harassment politics earlier this month to provide more protection to your community. The platform hopes the policy developed will give a “clearer and more consistent stance” on how Twitch is dealing with harassment.

Bad off-platform behavior

Updates are extended to serious off-platform misconduct. Twitch stated that in serious cases “where there is available and verifiable evidence” they will take action. This refers to harassment that occurs on other social networks and / or online or offline services when it involves members of your community.

Two categories

In a block, Twitch defines two categories in which they will act as harassment off the platform. The first category is an incident that occurs on the Twitch platform and then moves to another platform or vice versa. This policy is used in most cases related to out-of-service relationships.

The second category offers a broader view and belongs to the Twitch community as a whole. These cases include incidents that pose a “substantial security risk” to the community and can “occur completely outside of Twitch.” In this category, behavior that poses a threat includes deadly violence and violent extremism, leadership or belonging to a hate group, terrorist activities or recruitment, and a handful more. Twitch understands that the behaviors he exposed do not include all harassment, but his policy is always developed.

Past efforts

Currently, Twitch cannot examine incidents that occur outside of both categories with respect to out-of-service cases. While this approach is new, Twitch has acted in serious cases in the past. Twitch clarifies the complexity of these cases, as they take time and a lot of resources to resolve. With cases occurring outside the application, law enforcement and appropriate services can be involved so that they can share more information.

Third party partner

Twitch also partners with a well-regarded third-party research group to work with its internal team that deals with these cases directly. The third-party group is an experienced law firm that develops its experience with “respect and sensitivity to all parties involved.”

Finally, Twitch created an email for users to report incidents of harassment involving out-of-service interactions. The email for users to report such issues is [email protected]. Users can trust to report this email incident which will be treated confidentially within the internal computer. For other harassment issues that occur on Twitch, users should submit a report using the platform’s reporting tool.

Twitch’s persistence in keeping their community safe is what proves they care. When people feel safe and respected, they will feel more inclined to use Twitch. It is important that platforms have these systems in place to effectively support their communities.
