The new SEO tool uses local packages to track the percentage of Google SERPs

A free new tool for SEO, through the analysis of 60 million US queries, it can gain insight into the Google search function.

Local-Pack-O-Meter is developed by Local SEO Guide and can track data of ten different types of Google search functions, such as local packs, knowledge panels, shopping, job postings, advertisements, etc.

What distinguishes Local-Pack-O-Meter from other tools that monitor Google’s search capabilities is the amount of data it can access.

Traject Data is a client of “Local SEO Guide”, which provides SERP statistics for approximately 60 million US search queries. Compared with similar tools, a significantly larger sample size may result in the data being more representative of all US queries.

“Although tools like MozCast have their own version of the SERP feature tracker, these tools are usually only used for a relatively small number of keywords (1000 for MozCast). When we heard “60 million”, we thought it was OK It enables us to more accurately understand the status of SERP real estate in the entire country.”

Local-Pack-O-Meter contains historical data since May 2020, which makes it possible to spot some interesting trends.

In the United States, local packs appear in approximately 36% of Google search result pages. Except for September, this figure has remained unchanged from May 2020 to February 2021.

What we can gather from this data is that during the pandemic, the volume of searches that triggered local data packets did not seem to decrease.

The data shows that people search for local places and businesses at a similar rate throughout the year

So many local institutions have been forced to close for a period of time. Interestingly, the penetration rate of local search packages hardly fluctuates.

“The percentage of local packaging in the past year has been very stable. It is currently about 36%. Therefore, more than a third of all Google searches have some kind of local intent. That’s a lot of “pizza near me” searches. By the way, this is very close to what Mozcast shows (41%), which is great for you, Dr. Pete!”

The obvious change every month is the use of the “People Also Ask” search function. As of May 2020, this feature appears in 25% of SERPs, and as of February, this feature appears in more than 40% of SERPs.

For publishers, this may be a positive signal, because the increase in the “Ask people at the same time” box may lead to more content found through Google’s search suggestions.
