Throughout my career, I have been a freelancer on and off. The biggest lesson I have learned from working with clients has been the importance of setting expectations from the beginning.

This helps both parties to reach the same page and can prevent incorrect communication. That’s why you often have initial discovery calls, appointment appointments, and draft contracts.

Another way to set expectations is to create a design overview. This is essential in the early stages of your design project, whether you work for someone in the company or outsource it to an agency or an independent contractor.

Here’s everything you need to know about what to add to a design and templates to help you create it quickly.

Think of it briefly as a design: it provides all the information your designer needs to complete a project and helps bring both parties to life as expected. Usually, the customer (or brand) fills most of the sections in a short amount of time if they know what they are looking for.

The designated designer then assigns it based on conversations with that client. This is the basis for building the project.

So, when would you use design briefly? By:

1. Overview of your brand

It’s like going to the doctor. Before they can prescribe anything for relief, you need to tell them where it hurts.

For example, suppose you want to redesign your website. This could be because your users aren’t converting, or because the business has recently moved and needs a website to reflect this change. Knowing the reason for the project is as important as the project itself.

Next, tell us your goals and objectives. What do you want to achieve through this project? Is it part of something bigger? Are there any obstacles that could hinder your project?

The more detail you get, the better. Your goals may be to improve website conversions, reduce bounce rates, and / or increase traffic. It all depends on the project.

Answering these questions is important when aligning your vision with the designer and creating space to solve potential problems.

Finally, this section should list your outputs, such as:

For your design project, you want to update your brand package to reflect your consumers. By knowing more about your target market, your designer can use their knowledge design principles and research to create a product that meets the needs of your audience.

5. Your budget and timeline

These are the details needed to identify the right partner for your project. You can find a designer who is great but doesn’t meet your timeline expectations.

Similarly, during an opening call with a design agency, you may find out that they can’t do it work within your budget.

Describing your budget and schedule will help weed out the people who aren’t best for your project. Although timelines can be flexible, it is important to set an ideal schedule from the beginning and adjust later if necessary.

Once you have chosen a designer or agency, you decide together on the milestones or deadlines for the project.
