New YouTube logo “BHM” every week for the month of black history

February is the month of black history and YouTube marks this occasion in a prominent way. The YouTube logo that appears on the mobile apps and website will be reimagined by BHM for black artists this month.

At YouTube we believe in the power of various voices and perspectives. As part of our continued work to support and celebrate these voices, we begin Black History Month by highlighting four black artists this Black History Month. They will bring their creative talent to the YouTube logo.

Every Monday this February there will be a new logo of a black artist. Appears at the top left of the Home feed on Android, iOS, and desktop websites. The format appears to be the red game logo and a stylized “BHM” design. Does not include “YouTube”, appears for both logged in and logged in users, replacing the badge “Premium” for subscribers.

Users also see a prominent card “Celebrate the history of black” on your mobile to your feeds opening one “Voices of black creativity”Playlist. In the meantime, Google’s homepage and Chrome’s new tab page have a link to Google’s efforts “Celebrating black history creators, pioneers and future leaders“.

February 1st

BHM’s first YouTube logo was created by the Brazilian-based artist, lyricist and art director Leandro Assis. When asked about the design behind it, Assis explained:

What inspired me to create this piece was the blacks that surrounded me. The meaning and importance of our hair, the way we dance, the rhythms we create and the beauty of our different skin tones.

February 8th

He second The logo for the YouTube BHM series is by the North Carolina-based artist and designer Keisha Okafor:

For this piece, my passion for math has inspired me and I have also wanted to celebrate black women throughout history. Especially in the STEM field. I wanted to make sure it stood out in a way we don’t normally think about creativity, because even without a brush or ballet slipper, it can still be creative.

February 15th

Marco Cheatham, a designer and illustrator from St. Louis, created the third YouTube BHM series logo:

The inspiration for this piece was just the fact of wanting to showcase a variety of crafts and creative black people doing all sorts of different things. And I wanted to prove it as much as possible with as many different lights as I could.

Brooklyn-based illustrator Shanée Benjamin created the file fourth and last YouTube BHM logo:

What inspired me to create this piece is the joy I see living in Brooklyn, New York. Before I was quarantined, what I preferred was to go out dancing with my friends.
