Rescuers brought people to safety from two small boats in the middle of the night, while continuing to search for other potential victims.
At around 5 am, a lifeboat brought a group of people (mainly men) to the shore. After several hours at sea, they were wrapped in a purple blanket. Another smaller group is escorted by border guard officials.
Yesterday, rescuers had a very busy day. About 600 people arrived in Dungeness on the Kent Peninsula alone. Officials were at a loss. Many of the arrivals waited for hours in the cold without food or water.
