Weather forecast today Highlights: India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a red alert for Mumbai on Wednesday. IMD has indicated that there is a risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places. City and suburbs have seen more extreme rainfall since the morning.
The Indian Meteorological Department forecasts occasional gusts of wind at speeds of about 40-50 km/h to 60 km/h in a few areas.
Intermittent rain in Mumbai; IMD predicts more showers. No flooding in low-lying areas such as Hindmata, Matunga and Kurla, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said.
In Northwest India, rainfall intensity is sure to decrease over the next 24 hours. Western Himalayan region (Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall along with isolated heavy downpours.
Punjab and Uttar Pradesh will see a further decline from July 21 and the forecast will increase from July 25. Delhi will have moderate rainfall in scattered areas for the next 24 hours.
IMD says, “Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely to continue over the next 4-5 days over the west coast and adjacent inland areas and the Gujarat region.”
Isolated extremely heavy falls also very likely over Konkan, Goa and adjacent Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on July 21 – July 22.
IMD said in a statement, “Isolated heavy rainfall over the South Gujarat region until July 23 and likely to increase to isolated heavy to very heavy waterfalls from July 24.”

The forecast for eastern and adjacent central India on July 22-24 includes fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls.
Southwest monsoon is active all over Madhya Maharashtra, Goa and Konkan. It is due to the off-shore trench between Maharashtra and Karnataka which will continue to bring heavy showers over the coasts of both states.
Pune experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday with Shivajinagar recording 11.7mm of rain in the past 24 hours, Lohegaon – 8.8mm of rain and Pashan – 14.8mm of rain.
