The Dates Festival starts today at the Al Dhaid Expo

The activities of the fifth edition of the “Al Dhaid Date Festival”, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sharjah over four days, will start today at the Al Dhaid Expo Center, with the participation of dozens of date palm farmers from Sharjah and the various emirates of the country.
This year’s festival is brimming with heritage atmosphere and competitive competitions between palm owners and farmers as they showcase various varieties of dates from the 2021 season’s production, which the Sharjah Chamber guarded this year with the support and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah, valuable prizes worth 1.5 million dirhams, as part of the Chamber’s drive to double the interest in palm trees, contribute to the support of owners and farmers, the development and improvement of local date-based industries and increase the quality of the Emirati product

Specifications and standards
The organizing committee of the festival determined the specifications of the dates and the competition criteria, the most important of which is that the dates must be at the appropriate stage of maturity and that the single entry must not include more than one variety within the categories of the specific variety, and that the wet dates must be free of insect pests, dead insects, their eggs, larvae or residues, and any defects. Unnatural phenomenon, odor or taste, or if it has metallic or gritty traces such as scars, the size of the wet dates must be suitable, and it must not contain unripe fruits, and the weight of the participating wet must not be less than 3 kg in the individual varieties and delivered in a “fairy” in Whereas the participant in the elite category must participate in four items weighing four kilograms for each item, and that the items participating in the individual items may not be included, and the participating there must be satisfied with the decisions of the jury. The organizing committee of the event confirmed that visitors to the festival will be on a new date with a traditional and festive atmosphere that reflects the heritage of ancestors, the authenticity of the Emirati heritage, the farmer’s love for his land and his attachment to it , his interest in the palm tree and his enthusiasm to improve its varieties, and that the event will be an opportunity for families and visitors to experience a unique experience to live the nobility of the past and the prosperous present. The Al Dhaid Expo opens its doors to festival visitors daily from 8 am to 10 pm. The Al Dhaid Date Festival, whose first session was launched in 2016, is one of the most prominent economic, tourism, heritage and promotional initiatives on the list in the annual activity map of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sharjah, focusing on supporting the development process in the two regions: the eastern and central regions of the Emirate of Sharjah by strengthening Al Dhaid’s position in the agricultural prosperity sector and consolidating its position, especially in the field of palm cultivation, which is renowned for the diversity and quality of its varieties.

New competitions
The fifth session will witness the introduction of two new competitions, one for the local and various mangoes and the other for the yellow and red figs, in addition to the Muzayna Al-Rutb competition, including Al-Khalas, Al-Khunaizi, Al -Shishi, Emirates Elite and Al-Dhaid Elite, and Al-Haseel Dates (Al-Najal) competition, the biggest local lemon and the most beautiful wet fairy for women only. To participate in the competitions, the data must be from the local state production, and the participant from the Northern Emirates must provide wet from the production of his farm or garden, and the participant from the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai must be produced by his farm, with the need to present documents when applying for registration, taking an oath before all and visiting some farms.
