YouTube adds “Super Thanks” tips for certain channels

YouTube is adding another way to suggest your favorite creators and channels with a feature called “Super Thanks.”

Similar to the Super Chat option available when watching live YouTube views, “Super Thank You” allows you to give a creator advice when watching a standard pre-recorded / uploaded video. You may recognize this feature as “viewer applause,” which was only available in a very limited capacity as part of a beta test on the platform.

In the official announcement, YouTube clarifies that Super Thanks will allow viewers to tip at four prices between $ 2 and $ 50 or a local currency equivalent. Doing so will highlight your comment and give more prominence to the (usually toxic) YouTube comments section below a video on mobile and desktop devices. The person who has tipped will get a one-time balloon animation quite disappointing to signify their support as well:

Similar to how Super Chat and Super Stickers are used to support live broadcasts, your viewers can purchase Super Thanks by viewing YouTube (VOD) videos. With Super Thanks, your fans will be able to see an animated GIF and, as an added bonus, they will receive a different and colorful comment to highlight their purchase, to which you can respond. This unique animation will only be shown to the buyer superimposed on your channel’s video. Super Thanks is currently available at four prices between $ 2 and $ 50 (or the local currency equivalent).

The creators will receive 70% of the revenue generated by Super Thanks comments from Apple devices, but the revenue split will remain the same across all computers and Android. Like the Viewer applause feature, Super Thanks will hit beta-eligible YouTube channels in 68 countries around the world. You can check if you can access the option by going to Creator Studio> Monetization> Overruns.
