The Liwa Date Festival in its 17th session will resume its matches tomorrow, after a three-day hiatus, coinciding with the blessed Eid Al-Adha holiday, and it will receive participants’ entries from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The Abu Dhabi Cultural and Heritage Festivals and Programs Committee announced the change in the conditions of participation in the model farm competition to include farms with an area of ​​15,000 square meters (15 dunums), in appreciation of farmers’ interest in their farms and encourage them to develop them and open the competition door to the largest number of participants.

Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, director of the Liwa Date Festival and director of Project Management and Planning on the committee, said the change to the new terms also included the area of ​​the farm that would be entered in the Model Farm Competition, as it was reduced to 15,000 square meters instead of what was previously 22,500 meters.

Al Mazrouei explained that the model farm competition aims to support farmer owners in the eastern and western cities of Liwa and Al Dhafra, encourage them to take an interest in it and spread a culture of clean farms and rationalization of water consumption. other criteria contributing to the development of the agricultural sector.


He pointed out the conditions of entry, including the fact that the farm contains palms and other trees to an extent that corresponds to the size of the land, noting that there are a number of evaluation criteria for the competition, including: the general cleanliness of the farm, the use of modern water-saving irrigation methods and compliance with the general conditions and controls for the control of agricultural pests and that the farm is delimited by a fence and gate, among some other requirements such as: providing adequate housing for workers, storage areas for agricultural products, storage areas for agricultural inputs (such as pesticides, fertilizers, etc.), and areas for agricultural waste.

The festival director noted that the Model Farm Competition includes three categories: (Eastern teachers, Western teachers and Al Dhafra cities), and 15 prizes will be awarded, with 5 prizes for each category, with a total value of two million and 250 thousand dirhams , and the winner of the first place in each category will receive a cash prize worth 300,000 dirhams, the second place 180,000 dirhams, the third 120 thousand dirhams, the fourth 90 thousand dirhams and the fifth 60 thousand dirhams, as the results will be announced on the last day of the festival on July 25.

He stressed that the Liwa Date Festival is an important occasion that farmers in the UAE in general and the people of the Al Dhafra region in particular are waiting for, as this event has a great impact on the people of the UAE and its contribution to encouraging the community to conserve and care for the palm tree on the one hand and developing the farm’s infrastructure. The farming methods and the diversity of crops.

Over the next four days, from July 22 to 25, there will be 10 matches, for which 168 prizes will be awarded, divided between Rutb Al-Khunaizi, Bumaan and Al-Khalas (open round), Al-Khalas awarded to Al-Ain and Al-Fard (open) farms, Al-Ain and Liwa farms for the elite Rutb and Al-Dhafra for the Rutb elite, in addition to the competition of the most beautiful fairy tales, and the announcement of the results of the model farm (the eastern teachers, the western records and the cities of Al Dhafra).

Tomorrow will be held Rutb Al Khunaizi and 15 prizes worth 397,000 dirhams will be held, the Bumaan Rutb Mazayna (15 prizes worth 397 thousand dirhams) and the Most Beautiful Rutb competition (10 prizes worth 54,500 dirhams).


On Friday, there will be competitions for new dates (open round) and 25 prizes worth 446 thousand dirhams will be awarded to them, and new dates will be awarded to farms in Al Ain region (25 prizes worth 446 thousand dirhams) , and al-Fard dates (open rounds) and 15 prizes worth 397 thousand dirhams will be awarded for them.And nat the offer allocated to farmers in the Al Ain region (15 prizes worth 397 thousand dirhams) .

On Saturday, the Liwa Elite Dates competition will be held, for which 15 prizes worth 540,000 dirhams will be awarded. Participation in this is required to present at least 15 different varieties of dates, each item weighing at least 3 kg.

Today, Sunday (July 25), it will witness the Al Dhafra Elite Dates competition, for which 15 prizes worth 725,000 dirhams have been awarded. Participation is required to showcase at least 20 different varieties of dates, each item with a weight of at least 3 kg, and the winners will be announced Model Farm Competition.
