A woman was severely assaulted early Sunday morning, prompting Nelson Police to rely on information from the public.
The 29-year-old woman was assaulted around 1:30 a.m. July 18 in Richmond by an assailant described as wearing tall, stoutly built and dark-colored clothing.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnston said that while the woman did not require medical attention at the time, it was an extremely traumatic experience.
Johnston said Nelson Police would like to hear from residents and anyone who was in the general area of Cautley St and Hunt St before and around the time of the attack and who may have seen or heard anything that could assist them in their investigation .

There would be a noticeable police presence in the area in the coming days, he said, with a search of all homes in the area.
“We are particularly interested in getting camera images.”
