In a major boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat and strengthening the Indian military, the Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO) on Wednesday successfully tested domestically developed, lightweight, fire-and-forget Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile ( MPATGM) developed, DRDO said.
The missile was launched from a portable launcher integrated with a thermal site and the target mimicked a tank.
The missile hit the target in direct attack mode and destroyed it with precision. The test successfully validated the minimum range, DRDO further stated.
“All mission objectives have been achieved. The missile (Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile) has already been successfully tested for maximum range flight. The missile is built with state-of-the-art Miniaturized Infrared Imaging Seeker along with advanced avionics,” DRDO sa
The human-portable rocket is launched using a tripod designed for a maximum range of 2.5 km with a launch weight of less than 15 Kg, pilot flight tests have been successfully completed and guided flight tests (with IIR Seeker) have been planned.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and the industry on the successful test. Secretary Ministry of Defense R&D and chairman DRDO Dr. G Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team on the successful test.
