Barrack faces seven charges for acting as a UAE agent between April 2016 and April 2018. He is also charged with obstruction of justice and making false statements to federal law enforcement officers.
Barrack was the chairman of Trump’s inaugural committee, although the allegations appear to have nothing to do with the inauguration.
According to the indictment, Barrack and two other men indicted on Tuesday — Matthew Grimes of Aspen, Colorado and Rashid Sultan Rashid Al Malik Alshahhi, a UAE national — took advantage of Barrack’s status as senior outside adviser to the Trump campaign to ‘to make progress’. the interests of and the provision of intelligence to the UAE, while at the same time not informing the Attorney General that their actions were taken at the behest of senior officials of the UAE.”
Barrack was in direct and indirect contact with the UAE’s senior management, according to the indictment, and he referred to Alshahhi as his “secret weapon” to promote his foreign policy agenda in America.
