The Mets announced that they have designated right-handers Jerad Eickhoff to task. The move creates roster space for righty Robert Stock, who has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to start tonight’s match against the Reds.
This is the second time this season that New York has appointed Eickhoff. The veteran starter was selected to the list of major leagues last month, signed with the organization after being sent through exceptions and was again brought back to the majors two weeks ago. Between his pair of stints, Eickhoff has thrown 16 1/3 innings on 4.96 ERA / 5.71 SIERA ball. He has thrown strikes at a strong speed, but Eickhoff has not missed many bats and he has been tagged for six home runs in his limited work.
The Mets have a week to trade with Eickhoff or subject him to exceptions. If he clears direct dropouts – as he did in June – he could reject a minor league allotment in favor of free agency.
