The Ugandan Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has expressed concern that Islamic-founded universities in Uganda are sitting back while other universities are leading the way in developing the COVID-19 vaccine and possible cure.

UMSC Education Secretary Sheikh Juma Bakhit says Allah expects Islamic institutions to lead in finding solutions to all the challenges facing all of creation.

Bakhit spoke during scholarly Eid Adha prayers in Old Kampala on Tuesday. Uganda’s Mufti, Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje, was present.

“Now you can imagine that the prophet Muhammad was a solution for the people, that’s why we want our institutions to be the solution. Today every institution is looking for a cure for this COVID-19, people are getting vaccines. But what do our universities do for us?”

“Universities like Gulu and Mbarara are working on finding the solution to COVID-19, but our universities are working on finding mistakes from one person to another,” Bakhit added.

Bakhit described the situation as embarrassing and ordered Muslims to wake up and reclaim their position to achieve their goals.
