SINGAPORE – Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has expressed his thoughts and condolences to the family of 13-year-old River Valley High student who was murdered on school grounds on Monday (July 19).
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Prime Minister Lee said: “Like all of us, I was shocked by yesterday’s tragic incident at River Valley High School. We cannot understand what happened. Words fail us because we cannot. to understand.”
He added that his heart goes out to the victim’s family. “I know we cannot properly express our sympathy, or offer much comfort in their sudden calamity. But still I want them to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
He urged the public “not to aggravate the trauma and grief of the bereaved families with speculation and rumours,” as police continue to investigate “to determine the motivations behind this tragedy and whether anything could have been done.” done to prevent it”.
Prime Minister Lee also addressed how outside of schools the pandemic “has been tough on everyone”.
“If things sometimes seem too heavy, remember that help is always available, even if it’s just to talk to someone about what’s on your mind,” he said.
“We are all in this together. We are each other’s guardians. Let’s continue to take care of each other.”
