SINGAPORE – Two more markets and food centers will be closed after 35 cases of Covid-19 were discovered among people who have worked or visited those places.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said it has detected 25 such cases at Haig Road Market and Food Center and 10 cases at Chong Pang Market.

Both places will be closed to the public from Wednesday (July 21) to August 4 to break the transmission chain and allow for a thorough cleaning of the property, MOH said Tuesday evening.

The ministry previously announced that the Chong Boon Market and Food Center will be closed from July 18 to August 1.

“All persons working in the market and food center have been previously quarantined and tested during quarantine,” MOH said.

To uncover any cases of community infection, it will also extend free Covid-19 testing to members of the public who visited Chong Boon Market and Food Center between July 3 and July 17.

MOH said it is monitoring existing clusters for further transfers. “As no more cases have been associated with the Case 64233 and 90 Redhill Close clusters in the past two incubation periods (28 days), the clusters are now closed.”

The ministry said rising numbers of cases are likely to be reported in the coming days as it ramps up its efforts to detect new cases.

About 4.16 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 2.79 million have gone through the full vaccination schedule.
