Britney Spears’ new lawyer said Monday he would move “aggressively and quickly” to remove Spears’ father Jamie from the conservatory.
“First, I want to thank Britney Spears again for her courage and strength,” Mathew S. Rosengart said out of court. “I would like to thank Judge Penny for her courtesy in welcoming my firm and me to this case. And I also want to thank the fans and supporters of Britney Spears, the outrage and support for the company, myself and Britney has been truly overwhelming from coast to coast and around the world.”
He concluded his brief remarks by saying, “Finally, the last thing I’m going to say about this case, as I said in court last week and beyond, my firm and I are aggressively and swiftly moving toward a petition. to have Jamie Spears removed unless he resigns first.”
Last Wednesday, Spears filed a petition to appoint Rosengart as her attorney after her court-appointed attorney Samuel D. Ingham III resigned. Rosengart is a prominent Hollywood attorney and former federal prosecutor. He previously represented Ben Affleck, Steven Spielberg and Sean Penn.
During the hearing, Spears wept as she repeated her request to her father Jamie Spears to step down as co-curator.
Britney Spears’ conservatory dates back to 2008, around the time of her very public mental health issues. After losing custody of her two children to former husband Kevin Federline and then refusing to hand over her boys after a visit, Spears was hospitalized and placed in a 5150 psychiatric detention, beginning the conservatory under her name. father, Jamie Spears.
The pop star is actually under two conservatories: a conservatorship over her estate, which focuses on financial matters, and a conservatorship over her person, which gives the conservator control over her medical and personal decisions.
Last month, Britney Spears made her first public statement about the conservatorship during a court hearing in Los Angeles. Since her speech at the June 23 hearing, there has been a series of petitions from those involved with the conservatory.
“I just want my life back,” Spears said at the hearing. “And it’s been 13 years. And it’s enough. It’s been a long time since I’ve had my money. And it is my wish and my dream that this all ends without being tested.”
