Chicago shootings: 58 shots, 8 fatal, in violence over the weekend in weapons over the city, CPD says

CHICAGO – Eight people have been killed and at least 50 others injured in shootings over Chicago since Friday night, police said.

Last week, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said a federal strike force will be in Chicago this week. The move will provide additional resources to support the ATF.

This move comes after Mayor and Police Superintendent David Brown spoke with President Biden about sending federal aid to crack down on the arms trade. The president promised a “strike force” to work with local police.

A 49-year-old man was shot dead on Sunday night at the Greater Grand Crossing on the South Side.

He was talking to someone in a parked black-colored vehicle around 6 p.m. 22.25 when someone inside fired shots at the 7700 block on South Normal Avenue, Chicago police said.

He was hit several times in the body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County Medical Officer has not identified him.

A man was shot dead early Sunday morning in the Back of the Yards on the South Side.

The 30-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 5100 block of South Marshfield Avenue around 6 p.m. 12:40 a.m. when someone in a gray sedan fired shots, Chicago police said.

He suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. He has not yet been identified.

One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting on Saturday night in Chatham on the South Side.

The couple was standing outside about 11.25pm ​​in the 7600 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue when someone in a black SUV fired shots, police said.

A man suffered gunshot wounds to the body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. A 27-year-old woman was hit in the right knee and taken to the same hospital in fair condition, police said.

On Saturday, a man was fatally shot during an argument in East Garfield Park.

Around. At 1:45 a.m., the 31-year-old was shot in the head by a man during an altercation outside the 2800 block on West Van Buren Street, police said. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The shooter was on the scene when officers arrived and were taken to Area Four headquarters for further investigation, police said.

One man was killed and three others were injured in a shooting late Friday night in Austin on the West Side.

Around 11:55 p.m., the four men were standing outside the 700 block of North Lockwood Avenue as three people approached them and fired shots, police said. A 29-year-old man was hit in the head and back and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He has not yet been identified.

A man, 40, received gunshot wounds to the hip and leg, and another man, 45, was also hit in the leg, police said. Both men were transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. A fourth man, 62, suffered a grass wound in his back and was taken to the same hospital in good condition.

Friday night, a man was shot dead in a drive in West Pullman on the Far South Side.

The 26-year-old was on the street around 6.50pm in the 12000 block of South Union Avenue when a vehicle pulled up and someone from inside fired shots, police said. He was hit several times on the body and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Cook County Medical Officer identified him as Antwan Davis.

In non-fatal attacks, six people were shot outside a party late Saturday in Austin on the West Side, including a 12-year-old girl and four teenagers.

Around 11:40 p.m., they were standing with a group on the sidewalk in the 5000-block building on West Ohio Street when someone in a dark-colored SUV fired shots, police said.

The 12-year-old girl was hit in the hand and driven by family members to West Suburban Medical Center, police said.

A 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl both received gunshot wounds to the buttocks and were taken to Stroger Hospital, police said.

A 15-year-old girl received a grass wound to the head and a gunshot wound to the buttocks, according to police. She was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital. A 19-year-old woman was hit in the back and transported to Stroger Hospital.

A sixth victim, a 25-year-old man, was hit in the buttocks and went to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Efforts to combat growing gun violence in Chicago

Early Sunday, an 8-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man were injured in a shooting in Gresham on the South Side.

Just after kl. 1, the couple was traveling in a vehicle in the 2000 block on West 83rd Street when someone in a black SUV fired shots, police said.

The boy sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg and was transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

The man was hit in the back and treated and released on scene, according to police.

At least 37 other people were injured in the shooting since noon. 17 Friday.

Last weekend, 13 people were killed and 33 others injured in shootings across the country.
