Former MK Yehuda Glick arrested for having illegal alien in his car

Police have detained former MK Yehuda Glick for questioning on Saturday night on suspicion of trying to smuggle an illegal alien, a Palestinian, into Israeli territory at the Walaja checkpoint near Jerusalem.

On Sunday morning, Glick was released after questioning by police and a bail of NIS 5,000. The illegal alien was arrested and transferred to the military prison.

Hadas, Glick’s wife, said her husband was the one who asked the IDF soldier stationed at the checkpoint to check on the Palestinian after the couple picked him up as a hitchhiker, and that Glick was summoned for questioning at the Atarot police station.

“We were in Har Gilo (a settlement near Jerusalem) on Shabbat. When we went out, we saw a young man standing next to the waiting booth, he asked for a lift, we spoke to him, he said that he to Malha. We asked him where he came from, and he said ‘a neighbor from the village of Walaja’, and that he has permits.”

She further described that when they arrived at the checkpoint, the stationed soldier told them to continue on their way, and “in response, Yehuda drew his attention to the fact that he must check the passenger and the validity of his permits.”

She said that when it was discovered that there was a problem with the Palestinian’s permits, the soldier told them they were being held for attempting to smuggle an illegal alien, claiming that the law did not allow them to take him to the checkpoint. “We didn’t realize we had to drop him off in front of the checkpoint and let him walk.”

“A very hard feeling, a terrible feeling,” Hadas says, “we acted as any human would do.”
