BEIJING (Sputnik) – Beijing strongly objects to the United States blacklisting 23 Chinese companies and will provide an appropriate response, China’s Commerce Ministry said on Sunday.
“This is an unwarranted pressure on Chinese companies and a serious violation of economic and trade rules. China strongly objects to this,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry then demanded that Washington reverse the decision and warned that otherwise Chine would retaliate.
“We will take the necessary steps to vigorously defend our legitimate rights and interests,” the ministry said.
Earlier this week, the US Department of Commerce blacklisted 34 foreign entities, including 23 from China, in connection with the alleged abuses against the Uyghurs in Xinjiang province.
In recent years, Beijing has come under increasing scrutiny and criticism for allegedly repressive policies against ethnic Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities, as well as for curbing political opposition in Hong Kong and threatening Taiwan’s independence. Beijing refutes these allegations, describing them as outside interference.
