159 local companies in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, holding the ICV Local Value Certificate within the Abu Dhabi Local Content Program, won 152 tenders in 2020 from 17 local government entities, worth a total of about 4.6 billion dirhams.
This was stated in the Abu Dhabi Local Content Program Performance Indicators Report for the year 2020, issued by the Industrial Development Bureau of the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi, as part of the Department’s incentive initiatives to support the private sector within the Abu Dhabi Development Accelerators Program “Ghadan 21”.
The report indicated that the total number of companies that obtained ICV certification was 3,238 companies until the end of 2020, when the “Abu Dhabi Local Content” program was applied to 1,517 government tenders worth a total of 24 billion dirhams.
According to the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, memoranda of understanding have been signed with many state-owned companies to implement the program in their tenders in the current year 2021, reflecting the willingness of the Abu Dhabi government to improve the local content program , to implement its operational programs in the current year and strengthen the partnership between the public and private sectors.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi, Rashid Abdul Karim Al Balushi, emphasized the importance of the role played by the “Abu Dhabi Local Content Program” in increasing the gross domestic product of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the development of human capital, and the creation of new jobs for citizens in the private sector, noting that the results of the program’s positive indicators clearly reflect the skills development of the local workforce and the progress of the knowledge-based economy in the emirate , by relying on companies that adopt technology and innovation.
Al Balushi said: “Thanks to the integrated collaboration and coordination with a number of strategic partners of the department in Abu Dhabi, we were able to achieve the operational goals of the (Abu Dhabi Local Content Program) as set by the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in its decision of last April regarding Abu Dhabi’s local content program.”
The tenders awarded to the group of national and local companies participating in the “Abu Dhabi Local Content Program” follow 17 government agencies in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, including Abu Dhabi Municipality and Al Dhafra Municipality with a total of 42 tenders, and support for 23 tenders, and the Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority 19 tenders and 12 tenders for each From the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency and the General Organization for the Zoo and Aquarium in Al Ain, in addition to 20 tenders for each of the Abu Dhabi Dhabi Department of Energy, the General Administration of Customs Abu Dhabi, the Integrated Transport Center and other tenders for emirate-level government agencies.
