What’s it like when fellow students want to paint with you because you’re famous? How does it feel when you are selected in sixth grade for the most popular, best eyes, brightest future, and every other category?
Mads Lewis knows how it feels. She came on stage back in elementary school and hasn’t slowed down since.
Lewis is the star of TikTok, with more than 12 million followers on the platform.
Her success happened quickly.
She said, “It literally happened a week after I started posting on Musical.ly. The first video I ever shot was with my friend and the next one said she told me she was smoking. And I was wondering, ‘What is it? Why are so many people watching him? ‘So I decided to post on Musical.ly and a week later I started to be prominent about everything and blow up. “
After she became more popular, she experienced the hatred that all great creators have to face.
Lewis said, “People would put chewing gum in my hair or toss food. When I went to sixth grade, I was friends with everyone and I sat with everyone for lunch. But in eighth grade, it was just me, my sister, her best friend, and my brother. “
She decided to attend high school classes online and moved to LA to follow her dreams.
She began moving her audience to other platforms, such as Instagram and YouTube, to expand her reach.
It soon recorded an average of two million views per video on YouTube.
What is her secret to becoming viral? Lewis said: “Most platforms are interest-based algorithms. I can say that those who love comedy, dance, fashion and teen news will probably find me on their For You page. Most people want to achieve FYP (for you page) and if your video succeeds, it will probably show to more people because it will be recognized as a trendy video. “
Her content creation process is pretty simple. Lewis explained, “When I create content, I usually just redirect it. But I follow many trends, like: Dance trends, transition trends, etc. I also read from my commitment (my faith) to message to my followers. And I love doing videos that show a normal day in my life. “
Her advice to fans who would like to follow in her footsteps is, “If you think it’s funny, post it. Do not doubt yourself. Be confident. “
In addition to her creative work, she is focused on singing and acting: a trend that is popular among creators because they want to expand beyond social media platforms as well.
Lewis hopes to open a restaurant one day. She said, “I won’t bring up too many of my ideas, but I’ll let you know it’s going to be a hit! Have you ever wanted to go to a super posh restaurant in your pajamas? Or a not-so-elegant restaurant all finished in a tie or dress? You might want to go there after the prom. Follow us! “
If she ever opens a restaurant, you can be sure that an army of her loyal followers will line up around the block.
