Google’s efforts with Android TV OS seem to be finally underway with the new hardware, Google TV and more. As the platform expands, the YouTube app for Android TV has just surpassed 100 million installations.
According to the Play Store, Youtube for Android TV now has more than 100 million installations since its inception in 2014. Android Police points out that the previous milestone, 50 million facilities, in May 2020. While time never reaches 100% in the Play Store, this is still impressive growth for Google’s platform.
The highlight here is that YouTube is a pre-installed app on virtually every Android TV device, so this metric gives us a good indication of how the platform grows and expands. Recently, Google mentioned that there are more than 80 million monthly active Android TV devices in nature, so YouTube with more than 100 million installations tells us that even more have been sold and are they have been left out of rotation.
But really, it’s no surprise. 2020 was a huge year of growth for almost all transmission platforms, except Roku. Google even mentioned in I / O that the growth of Android TV jumped 80% in the United States.
