Whether you’re just starting a blog or you’re recently stuck in a rut, it’s important to find ideas. No one wants to read content that is too similar to all the other bloggers in your topic. Fortunately, if you know what a blog is about, it’s much easier to differentiate your blog. Before you know it, your blog can become a go-to destination.
Find your niche as a blogger
If you’ve already started a blog but don’t have a niche, you need it fast. In my experience, one of the biggest reasons why blogs fail is because they don’t have a niche. People need a reason to follow your blog, and in most cases it’s their interest in your niche. Here are some ideas to help you choose the right niche.
What do you do in real life?
Depending on your industry and professional position, this coldness will be the ultimate factor on what to blog about. For example, if you are a CEO, you can share your professional experience. Since you are known as an expert in the subject, you can open up a lot of possibilities. Or, if something happens to your company, being an SME can help you get a new job sooner. This approach is especially effective if you share some of your thoughts on LinkedIn.
What is it that you like to do or are you passionate about?
Another solution to what you need to blog about is talking about your passions. This topic could be a hobby: there are a lot of blogs dedicated to crafts, music releases, travel and other leisure activities. Some even talk about the latest family picnic and how they made it perfect.
Here’s the thing: if you don’t like your niche, then it will be hard to keep blogging. It was true whether your theme was work, pleasure, or some mixture of the two. Another reason why your passion for the subject is important? To some extent this is seen in your writing. It’s less obvious on a business blog, but many other topics make it hard to hide disinterest.
What are you good at?
While many of us find interesting things we can’t do on our own, they usually make a bad niche for blogs. For example, the return of manned spaceflight to American soil has revived the interest of many people in rocketry. Older Americans, who once watched a man land on the moon, are once again glued to their TVs. Younger Americans also remember the awe of the Shuttle launch. However, if they can’t explain the science behind the rocket, then that’s probably not their answer on what to blog about.
There are complex topics outside of someone’s field of study or work, but which they can easily explain. If this person also likes to talk about this topic, it could be a great choice. Sometimes the perspective that people like this give to a topic is especially valuable. The key here is to choose something that you can continue to write about for years.
What other content do you consume?
Deciding what to blog about should also include considering your overall content consumption. That means looking beyond the bloggers who inspire you. For example, someone who loves traveling to other countries is likely to read a travel blog, have several Instagram accounts related to the trips they follow, and view travel logs on YouTube. Offline, they may also be reading a travel magazine. Or two. The interests you pursue on multiple forums are great opportunities when you want to become a content creator.
What do you teach others who come to you?
No matter what area of life you come from, there may be people who are inspired by you. These can be family members, part of your religious community, friends, co-workers, students or employees. Sometimes these are people you barely know. But in any case, most of us have bits of wisdom that can be shared with people who reach for it. Wisdom can be related to work, personal or something else, depending on the context.
If you are especially appreciated for your opinion and wisdom, then this can be a great choice for what you will be blogging about. For example, many business leaders have blogs that talk about their business lessons. Lifestyle blogs also often have several posts in which the author shares wisdom with his readers. When you think about it a little better, the possibilities are endless.
10 places to find inspiration for blog post ideas
Once you decide what to blog about, it’s time to start working on your own blog content calendar. This is a specific plan to cover certain topics during a (usually) one-year period. And while it might seem like a daunting task to make one of them, it’s a lot easier if you know where to look for ideas. Typically, you will want to develop ideas based on other people’s issues, strategic keywords, and other factors related to SEO. Here are some of my favorite tools.
1. Google Suggest
If you are not familiar with Google Suggest, it is that feature of autocomplete in the search engine. When you go to Google and start typing a query, Google Suggest tries to hit the rest of your search. Although most Internet users take this “benefit” for granted, we bloggers see an opportunity. Suggested searches are based on what people are looking for, so these are great signs of what to blog about.
2. Blog topics from keyword research tools
The next way to choose what to blog about is keyword research. You can use any number of keyword research tools, each of which tells you what’s trending in your niche. Many of these tools, such as SEMrush, have multiple uses in the world of marketing. And don’t forget, part of being a successful blogger makes it visible to others. In turn, proper marketing of your blog through search engines will make it easier (and more rewarding) to monetize.
3. Ideas from social stocks
One of the best ways to find out what people are interested in is to watch social media. Whether it’s LinkedIn for business topics, Instagram for the latest craft ideas or Facebook family celebrations, social networks where the action is. In addition to watching your favorite personalities on social networks, it is best to use a tool for content on social networks. 4. Questions people ask
Not everything people want to know is easy to find blogging tools So far I have been arguing. Instead, some questions remain unanswered or are insufficiently addressed. Cooking blogs can discuss the best holiday meal, while making blogs can discuss the latest spring decoration. Just remember that depending on your specific niche, calendar-related content may need to come out on the eve of your actual vacation.
7. What do you rank
Google Search Console is a tool to measure your overall performance on Google. It will tell you on which keywords you have the best performance, and this helps in creating your content calendar. At the same time, you can get advice on site health and related topics.
8. What people are looking for on your website
Similar to the search console, Google Analytics can help you decide what to blog about. However, the topic of attack is different. In this case, you’ll find out what visitors to your site are already looking for. When studying this information, you need to find “holes” and other possibilities within your content. You can then write posts that answer those questions.
9. Answer questions from people in your audience
Have you ever noticed how masters in live streaming or radio shows take questions / calls from their audience? This is one of the oldest tricks for audience engagement, but it also helps bloggers decide what to blog about. If an audience member asks a great question in blog comments or by engaging content, you should notice. By responding to your audience, you can make your blog a popular destination.

Whatever your niche, there’s a good chance it’s part of your purpose to educate people about it. This is true even for bloggers in travel or hobbies. To that end, most bloggers should create some educational content. These types of posts include instructional guides, guides, and other resources. Travel bloggers can, for example, post about travel health insurance. Knitters can talk how to make a short line, and so on.
Inspirational posts will often rely on your expertise in the niche for raising people. An inspirational post on “Mom’s Blog” could discuss how one child overcame difficulties at school. Someone in a niche based on faith could tell the audience how that faith helped someone. Or, an inspirational post can give an exciting view of current events.
Share your life with others through lifestyle content. This is technically a niche for blogging in itself. However, even bloggers with other niches can write about themselves every now and then. For example, if you follow me carefully enough, you will know that I am fluent in Japanese and that I love their culture. I also talked about the lessons learned living there.
For our purposes here, revenue-generating content is one that is directly related to your revenue-generating activities. One example on my website is a page where I discuss which marketing services for influencers I provide. It is common for many bloggers to sponsor a review or product announcement. Finally, you can discuss your associated contracts and why you have the ones you have chosen.
SEO content for ranking by strategic keywords
Finally, as a blogger there are a few things that are more important than getting a decent SEO rankings. While you don’t need SEO to optimize every post, you should definitely work for enough of them to increase traffic. To do this, choose strategic keywords that reflect your core mission. Then write the post one keyword at a time. This keyword will usually be included in your topic.
Whether you’re a blogger starting out or you’re an old hand, it can sometimes be hard to know what a blog is about. This is especially true in situations where it is more difficult to participate in normal activities. It’s also hard when you lose sight of what questions people are asking.
