back in August, Google Discover began showing “Short Videos” to join web pages, regular videos, and later AMP-based web stories. In front of the beta will arrive in the US next month, Google will test YouTube Shorts and other short content on Discover.
The cards include the YouTube Play logo at the top left, while the video title and “YouTube” appear below. If you tap right away, the YouTube app and a new full-screen player will open where you can like / dislike, view comments, share, and view “More”: description, report, or post comments. There is no search bar with the only control being play / pause. You can slide up to jump to a new short and down to go back.
When we first saw the “Short Videos” carousel at Discover last year, clips of Indian competitor TikTok Trell and the Google Area 120 project appeared Tangi, which focuses on 60-second DIY “quick videos.”
Back in Discover, you have the option to “Don’t show again” in the overflow menu, while this carousel is displayed next to AMP’s “Stories”.
The carousel shows 10 videos, although there are some nuances to the content listed here. “YouTube shorts”They last up to 15 seconds and are created using a“ short camera ”that is currently only available in India. Accessed from the Create menu in the bottom bar of the YouTube app, this new “short video creation tool” lets you select music, adjust speed, and set a hands-free countdown timer during recording.
However, YouTube encourages all creators to upload short vertical videos of up to 60 seconds and tagged with #Shorts in the title or description. These videos are also displayed in the user interface of the special player described above, in various carousels of the YouTube application, and now in Discover.
Google Discover today presents the usual YouTube content as full cards, and the current addition of Shorts is a natural extension that will help increase the beta format. Announcing that the camera and beta version of Shorts will hit the state, the Google company said that “YouTube’s Shorts player now receives more than 3.5 billion daily views worldwide.”
The Google Discover short video carousel with YouTube is still in testing and not yet deployed.
